  The Panagia Sumela is a non-functioning Orthodox monastery of the Constantinople Orthodox Church, erected at the end of the 4th - beginning of the 5th century AD on the chalk rock of Trabzon (Trapezus; territory of modern Turkey). Since the end of the 4th century, the miraculous icon of the Mother of God Panagia Sumela, written, according to legend, by the Apostle Luke, was kept in the monastery.
